Creative Economy Success Story

The City of Hartford CT introduced their creative economy initiative in 2009 by creating jobs in the creative economy realm.  Recently 18 Hartford Artists were awarded grants that totaled $100,000.  Earlier in the year they gave $370,000 to 19 non-profit organizations to create arts-related jobs.  Over the last two years Hartford has invested over $2 million dollars in this initiative.

Introduction to the Waunakee Creative Economy Initiative

Waunakee has quietly become a hub for the arts, we are the home to the Wisconsin Center for Music Education, Wisconsin Music Educators Association, Wisconsin School Music Association, and Wisconsin Foundation for School Music.  Because of all these opportunities call Waunakee HOME, the Village Board is looking carefully at the potentially important role that creativity and arts related businesses and initiative can play.  Waunakee may be able to harness this creative economy and have it become an important part of our overall economy. 

Creative Economy is defined as: a range of economic activities which are concerned with the generation or exploitation of knowledge and information.  Creative Economy is made up of advertising, architecture, art, crafts, design, fashion, film, music, performing arts, publishing, software, toys, games, TV, radio, and video games. 

The purpose of this blog is to have a place to come to with ideas, comments, new information, and focus questions for Waunakee's Creative Economy.  Please feel free to comment on blog posts and share your thoughts and ideas.
